The 13th Implementation Meeting of the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation in London

Gender Concerns International, as a signatory to the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation (DoP), joined other leading election observation organizations in London to examine the current trends and issues faced by international observers. This years meeting took place between 29-30 November in the Commonwealth Secretariat. Gender Concerns’ Director, Ms Sabra Bano, contributed to the special session, “Guiding Principles on Gender Considerations in International Election Observation”, dedicated to establishing a consensus on gender considerations in international election observation missions. The session paid particular attention to the guidelines designed to assist DoP endorsees with integrating a gender perspective into their missions. The reports from Gender Concerns’ unique Gender Election Observation Missions (GEOMs) undertaken to date have contributed to the content of these guidelines. Whilst in London, Ms Bano is having an opportunity to emphasize, in front of the distinguished DoP audience, the importance of incorporating a gender dimension to international election observation.
